When unknowns come up in renovation, as they always do, the designer will work alongside the contractor to find solutions that keep the integrity of the design top of mind, without involving you directly. For example, when the design plan calls for a recessed flushed mirrored medicine cabinet and sheetrock comes down to reveal that there is a heating duct right where the mirrors should be that prevents them from being recessed. Most contractors would just suggest not having them be recessed, but the designer would opt to build out the wall so that your design plan stays true.

With estimates, or putting your project out for bid, you must be thoughtful in your planning to the most accurate numbers possible. With a more detailed plan and a better understanding of your needs and goals for the project, it will then help your contractor understand exactly what is needed to get the truest price and not just the lowest initial bid. You will then have more accurate estimates to compare. We can even help with this if we are there from the very start!

And yes, even with the best contractor, you need a designer to explain the little things that go beyond the structure. Don’t you want to know the pros and cons of a rain shower or the height of the sconce in the bathroom to be sure that you don’t have shadows while getting ready in the morning?

Outside the home: Depending on where you live, outdoor lights can signify the holiday season regardless of the quintessential snow and 30-degree weather. In Florida, many homes participate in a neighborhood wide festival of lights lining their homes and palm trees alike with twinkling lights to create holiday cheer!

Inside the home: There are a few different key areas where light plays a role. From task lighting, to accent to ambient, they are serving a different purpose. Task lights, your overhead recessed lights, LED flat panel lights in pantries, closets, garages etc. and play a more functional role. Whereas accent lighting is for table lamps, chandeliers, pendant lights and vanity lights that enhance a space that may already be properly lit. Lastly, ambient lights can be sconces, battery touch lights for inside or outside, installed on wall units and near cabinets for places where you want to add soft, low voltage lighting.

Safety: Obviously, lighting helps illuminate rooms that may be hard to navigate without. Did you know that the right lighting can actually boost your mood and enable you to sleep better? The ‘temperature’ of the light; 2700 warm, 3000 -3500 neutral or sometimes called daylight, and 4000-4500 bright light can also impact energy levels.

Color can be used to help identify the function of a room, similar to how a piece of furniture, like a desk, can signify an office.

There is a lot of talk about when it comes to color this time a year as the coveted 2026 Color of the Year was just released by both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-William’s. As we wait for Pantone to release, we thought it was time to take the opportunity to discuss one of the most important details of interior design.

By brightening up a room that has less natural light or opposite dark hues helping to create a moody aesthetic, color and their hues can really enhance the function of a space.

And when it comes to specific colors, they all tell a story! A bright or even a deep red, orange or yellow can be used to spark energy and happiness. Think a playful game room, your bedroom or a home office.

With soft cool hues of blue or green, a sense of calmness and soothing energy washes over a space, this is perfect for a bedroom sanctuary or spa.

At the same time, darker hues of those same colors can create a moody feeling, safety and something quite cave-like to enhance relaxation in a different way. This could be good for a lounge space, billiards or movie room.

Colors can also identify the physical location of a home. Take whites, cool blues, greens and soft purples for example and you get a true coastal feel. While brick red, dark grey, charcoal, and bold cobalt blue can signify a city space.

It’s also so easy to bring color into your home in noninvasive ways like a quick paint refresh, accent pillows or vibrant accessories added to an already complete

We know that we call ourselves interior designers but it is not only about what’s on the inside. Your home can be beautiful on the outside too and we can help elevate your exterior!

Starting out by cleaning up what you already have with some maintenance to the outside of your home. A simple power wash to freshen up the siding can do the trick to make paint look brand new! You likely won’t realize the difference clearing fallen leaves or excess dirt will make until you do it.

Paint! This is likely the most obvious way to spruce up the outside of your house and give it just the lift it needs. Even if you don’t necessarily want to change the color of your exterior, a fresh paint job will do the trick too! If you have brick or, try an accent color on your doors or shutters.

One of our favorite parts about outdoor design is landscaping. It can truly transform a home and the curb appeal will elevate with the use of colored trees, flowers and plants. Even the way they are placed makes a difference. Try softening the hard lines of a boxy exterior by adding curves with different walkways and plant types.

Don’t forget about potted flowers! They are always a plus and can be exchanged throughout the seasons so you’re never without plants.
