It’s that time of the year when parents are getting their children ready to go back to college or helping to settle graduates into their first apartment. Both of us have been busy helping our young adults with their apartment decorating.
My youngest son relocated to Arkansas, where he found an amazing apartment in a newly constructed building - The Pointe at Bentonville. I was so excited about helping with his apartment decorating because he had lived on campus all throughout college. I could finally help him decorate his first home.
The architectural details of the space are impressive. The living room is adorned with a double tray ceiling making it appear higher than it is. Arkansas is considered the South, with lots of hills and lakes, so we made the space transitional on the contemporary side but added a rustic flair to make it feel like home. I stayed with neutral, classic furniture so it will be able to move with him throughout his life. Classic furniture can be mixed with other styles and can withstand time.
The paint is a young trendy Sherwin Williams color called Dorian 7017. Related colors are Mindful Gray SW 7016 and Elder White 7014. The grays gave us a lot of choices from which to choose for furniture and accessories. The dining room table is a round metal and wood pub set with a rustic twist under an edgy orb chandelier made of black iron. The pub style table keeps the look young and fun. The cost of the set was reasonable and I was able to pick up an extra two chairs for the kitchen island.
My son’s favorite piece is the Moose artwork on the wall above the couch. It was our inspiration and we designed the space around it.
It’s stressful to start a new job, especially when you are moving to a different state. I’m glad I was able to help him his apartment decorating. Besides, it gave both of us time to adjust and make a few more memories.
